On January 21, 1979, the Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Dallas Cowboys with a 35-31 victory in Super Bowl XIII. The Steelers had previously defeated the Cowboys in Super Bowl X, and this game was the first Super Bowl rematch, in addition to being what many would consider one of the best Super Bowls. Super Bowl XIII was played at the Orange Bowl in Miami, Florida. It was the last of five Super Bowls to be played at the Orange Bowl.
Terry Bradshaw, voted Super Bowl MVP, completed 17 of 30 passes for 318 yards, a personal high. Four of those passes went for touchdowns - two to John Stallworth and the third touchdown, with 26 seconds remaining in the second period, to Rocky Bleier for a 21-14 halftime lead. Lynn Swann was the leading receiver in the game with 7 receptions for 124 yards and a touchdown. Stallworth recorded 115 yards and a touchdown off just 3 receptions. Stallworth and Swann became the first pair of teammates to each have 100 yards receiving in a Super Bowl and the first time two receivers did it in the same game.
The Dallas Cowboys put up a great fight in Super Bowl XIII, however, they were unable to overcome turnovers, drops, and a controversial penalty during the second half. Although they made a valiant comeback effort, scoring twice in the last few minutes to cut the lead to 35-31, their onside kick with 22 seconds left was unsuccessful, resulting in the Steelers' victory.
