Game time rituals, superstitions, and baseball seem to go hand in hand. The Curse of the Bambino is one of the most famous superstitions in sports. Below are some interesting rituals of famous baseball players. We understand your quirky rituals. Whatever you need to do to keep winning is ok with us!
Roger Clemens would touch the head of the Babe Ruth statue before pitching in Yankee Stadium.
Mark McGwire wore the same protective cup from high school.
Joe DiMaggio ran from the outfield and would touch second base before going into the dugout.
Wily Mo Pena sniffs the pine tar on the handle of his black Louisville Slugger, starting at the handle and moving towards the barrel. He then bites his bat. "I bite it with my teeth and give it a kiss," he says. Wily is also known for spitting into his helmet.
Richie Ashburn used to sleep with his bat.
Wade Boggs would take exactly 150 ground balls during practice. Boggs would also eat a chicken before every game.
What are some of your personal pre-game sports rituals? We'd love to hear them!
Yesterday we posted some new celebrity pictures to our Flagship Store folder. We love seeing entertainers, athletes, etc. wearing our stuff and we know you guys like seeing the pictures so we're always happy to share them. While seeing someone famous wearing our headwear or apparel is always a thrill, we get just as excited when we see someone on the street wearing something that we've made. Seeing someone wearing a garment or a hat that we've designed, developed or researched never gets old. Every person who works for Mitchell & Ness has, at one time or another, resisted the temptation to approach someone on the street to talk to them about what they're wearing. Well we're not holding back anymore.
Starting today we'll be looking for people on the street wearing Mitchell & Ness. So, if someone approaches you with a card that looks like these,
don't be alarmed. It's just one of our employees wanting to take your picture and to learn a little more about you - your name, where you bought that hoody, why you're wearing that hat, where you're from, etc. To identify themselves an an employee they will give you one of the cards pictured above. Then they will ask if they can take your picture. If you agree, they'll take your picture and soon after that we'll send that out via twitter so everyone can see how amazing you look in your Mitchell & Ness gear.
So look for us all across the U.S. and in Europe. We're looking for you.
