On November 29, 1976, Reggie Jackson signed a 5 year 2.96 million dollar contract to play with the New York Yankees.
You know the rest about Reggie's playing time in the Bronx but do you know how he landed on # 44?
Reggie's first choice was # 9 but since that was taken by Graig Nettles that was out. His second choice was # 42, in honor of Jackie Robinson, but that was
claimed by pitching coach Art Howler.
Third choice was # 44, in honor of recently retired Hank Aaron. Obviously that one stuck.

so we wanted to get in on the action. We're going to post a bunch of Notre Dame "did you know" posts today. First up, let's talk about the legendary ND Alma Mater, "Notre Dame, Our Mother". The music was composed by Notre Dame band director Joseph Cassanta with the lyrics coming from University President Reverend CharlesO'Donnell. The song debuted at halftime of the Notre Dame Stadium Dedication Game in 1930. The song is played at the conclusion of most major events at the school, most notably at the conclusion of football games. If you've never witnessed the singing of the alma mater at the end of a game, check it out below. It is something to behold. It's absolutely one of the greatest traditions in sports.

Prince Shembo, Manti Te’o and Robby Toma sing "Notre Dame, Our Mother" on Senior Day 2012.
Alma Mater (Notre Dame Our Mother)
Notre Dame Our Mother, tender strong and true,
proudly in the heavens gleams thy gold and blue,
glory's mantle cloaks thee, golden is thy fame,
and our hearts forever praise thee, Notre Dame,
and our hearts forever love thee, Notre Dame.
On November 27, 1963 Wilt Chamberlain hit 18 field goals in a row to set what was at that time an NBA record. Wilt led the Warriors to defeat the New York Knicks in this game with a score of 118-89. We all know he didn't stop there. Chamberlain went on to set the NBA single-game records for most points (100) and most rebounds (55). He was the only NBA player to score 4,000 points in a season.
