On April 26, 1964, the Boston Celtics became the NBA Champions defeating the San Francisco Warriors 4-1 in the series. The Celtics earned their 6th straight and 7th overall NBA championship as they continued to prove their dominance in the 1960s. With the exception of 1967, the Celtics won every NBA championship in that decade under the leadership of Red Auerbach.
This was San Francisco Warriors first trip to the NBA Finals since 1956 when they were based in Philadelphia. They made a repeat appearance in 1968 and they earned the franchise's second championship in 1975 when they were known as the Golden State Warriors.
