Congratulations to Derek Jeter for becoming the 28th player in Major League Baseball history to collect 3,000 career hits. Jeter is the first to reach the 3,000 hit milestone since Craig Biggio did it on July 9th, 2007. His 3,000th hit came in Saturday’s matchup with the Tampa Bay Rays. In the bottom of the 3rd inning, Jeter pulled a 78 mph slider from pitcher David Price over the left field wall to tie the game at 1s. He would finish the game 5 for 5, including a game winning RBI in the 8th inning.
Jeter is only the second player to hit a homerun for his 3,000th career hit (Wade Boggs, 1999). He is also the first Yankee to hit 3,000 for their career. Watch the below for his postgame reaction to his historical day.
