This Day in History: The Freezer Bowl


The 'Freezer Bowl', played January 10, 1982, was the AFC Championship Game between the Cincinnati Bengals and the San Diego Chargers. This game was played in brutal conditions at Riverfront Stadium in the coldest temperature in NFL history in terms of wind chill. The temperature was at minus 9 at kickoff and the wind chill plummeted to a negative 59. The Bengals went on to defeat the Chargers 27-7 and advanced to their first Super Bowl.
