Fourty nine years ago today, Roger Maris hit the first of his record breaking 61 home runs in a single season previously set by Babe Ruth. In the 5th inning at Tiger Stadium with one out and nobody on, Maris hit his first home run of the season off Tiger right-hander Paul Foytack. This was his only home run in April which put him six home runs behind teammate Mickey Mantle to start off the month of May. Maris had to turn his game on in the coming months. And he did just that, hitting 50 home runs in four months: 11 in May, 15 in June, 13 in July & 11 in August.
