Pete attended LSU to play college ball. While there he averaged an amazing 44.2 points per game. Does anyone think that record will ever be broken? We don't.
After college the Atlanta Hawks selected him with the third overall pick in the 1970 draft. He played with the Hawks for four years before being traded to the expansion New Orleans Jazz. Maravich stayed with the Jazz when they moved to Utah, but only spent half of the 79-80 season there before he was waived. He was picked up by the Celtics where he played with them for the rest of the year before retiring.
While Maravich was an amazing player, many felt that his focus was on personal accolades over team accomplishments. Whether or not this is correct we'll never know. Maravich died at the age of 40 after playing a pick up game.
We can't help but wonder how much Maravich would have flourished in today's more player focused NBA. Your thoughts?
