Chris Mullin was born on July 30, 1963 in Brooklyn, New York. I know, that face says Indiana not Brooklyn doesn't it? But, if you've ever heard Mr. Mullin talk, you know he's all Brooklyn.
Anyway, Chris grew up on the basketball courts of Broooklyn and attended St. John's University in Queens. At St. John's he was Big East Player of the Year three times, named to the All America team three times and won the Wooden Award as the most outstanding player in men's college basketball in 1985.
The Golden State Warriors selected Chris with the 7th pick in the 1985 NBA draft. He made an immediate impact averaging 14 points per game in his first season. In no time at all Chris was one of the superstars of the NBA. He was selected to the All Star team five times and in 1988 - 89 he partnered with Mitch Richmond to form the highest scoring duo in the league, averaging 48.6 points per game.
Chris earned two Olympic gold medals, the first in 1984 and the second as part of the Dream Team in 1992. After the 1996 - 97 season he was traded to the Indiana Pacers where he played for the guy he was often compared to, Larry Bird. He spent three years with the Pacers and was waived after the 1999 - 00 season. The Warriors re-signed Chris for the 2000 - 01 season and he appeared in 20 games before retiring.
Let's see - Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame, New York City Basketball Hall of Fame, Big East Hall of Fame. There seems to be one Hall of Fame missing. Should Chris should be in the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame? Let us know what you think.
