On this date back in 1972, Jerome Bettis was born in Detroit, Michigan. “The Bus” currently stands fifth on the NFL all-time leading rusher list. A graduate of the University of Notre Dame, Jerome Bettis was drafted in the first round (10th overall) of the 1993 draft by the Los Angeles Rams.
In Bettis’ first season in the NFL, he rushed for over 1,400 yards and earned himself the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award. Over his 12 career seasons, Bettis would accumulate 13,662 rushing yards, 94 touchdowns, 3 All Pro awards, 6 Pro Bowl selections, the Walter Payton Man of the Year award, and oh yeah, a Super Bowl XL Championship ring. Few players have been able to combine the speed, foot work and sheer power of Jerome Bettis, and it is because of this that he is considered one of the all-time great running backs of the NFL.
Look for Mitchell & Ness to honor Jerome Bettis, and his amazing career, in the only way we know how later on this year….
