October 11, 1980 - The Debut of the Dallas Mavericks

On October 11, 1980, the current NBA Champion Dallas Mavericks took the court for their first official NBA game.  The Dick Motta led Mavericks were matched up against their in state foes, the San Antonio Spurs.  The Mavericks starters for this inaugural game were: Jerome Whitehead, Abdul Jeelani, Tom LaGarde, Geoff Huston and Winford Boynes.  The game was played in front of 10,323 fans with the Mavericks shocking everyone with a 103 - 92 win.  Winford Boynes led the Mavs with 21 points while Tom LaGarde chipped in with 19 points and 14 rebounds.
