This year marks the 40th Anniversary of the 1969 Miracle Mets. The Mets had not had much success in thier first seven years of existence, losing an average of 105 games a season. Then 1969 came around and everything changed. With an ace pitching staff, including Tom Seaver, Nolan Ryan and Tug McGraw, leading the way, the Mets miracously won 100 games. They continued on to beat the Baltimore Orioles (featuring Frank Robinson, Brooks Robinson and Jim Palmer) to win the World Series, becoming the first expansion club to win the division title, pennant and World Series.
In the current issue of Sports Illustrated there is a fantastic article about that team and where they are now. Thanks to the folks at SI for including this great shot of legendary pitchers Tom Seaver and Nolan Ryan wearing their Mitchell & Ness wool jackets.
Besides checking out the SI article, be sure to watch for the reunion of this great squad on August 22 at Citi Field.
